Newbury Geological Study Group (NGSG) | How we are run
Out trips are designed to be both educational and fun. They give an opportunity to see Geological structures at first hand. Handouts are usually provided and we normally have the geological maps of the area available. All aspects of geology are covered and we sometimes do some practical work such as testing soils or measuring river flows.
Read the detailed instruction which will be emailed to you. These will tell you about the meeting place, whether or not hard hats are required, the arrangements for lunch and other information we think you will find useful. We will also give as much detail as we can about the terrain and the walking involved. We usually meet about 10.00am and finish about 4.00pm.
We are not running the minibus because of COVID, but may resume if the situation changes.
Please make your own transport arrangements.
A provisional programme will be emailed in the Autumn and will appear on this site. We will send a more detailed email about a week before the trip takes place. Please let us know if you intend to come. If we have to cancel we will get in touch with those who have told us they are coming.
A packed lunch will be required for most day trips. See the trip details for specific information.
A camera, hand lens, geological hammer and goggles can be useful pieces of equipment to carry. You should also have a hard hat (see Health & Safety).
